The Corydon Christian church and Sunday School press invite all members to a picnic at Kamp Keller on Blue River next Thursday afternoon. Transportation plans include cars from the church at two o clock P M. A picnic supper is planned with bring some good food to share.
Kathryn Carter daughter of Mr and Mrs James A Carter born April 4 1893 died July 27 1928 at age 30 years 3 months and 23 days She joined the M E church in Milltown under Rev L C Marr and was an Eastern Star member She leaves parents one brother Alvin four sisters Rebecca Mary Marie and Ola plus many relatives and friends Funeral at M B church conducted by Rev L C Marr interment at Milltown Cemetery at 2 PM Sunday.
Program for the twelfth annual Sunday school celebration lists hymns prayers and readings from Laconia Union and other churches with Rev. D H Rosier Rev H C Stevens and Rev Pearcy among speakers. Duets solos and pantomime items feature various congregations and committees including Jesse Shields and Mrs A Bauman.
Celebration at New Amsterdam on Saturday August 4 features fore noon and afternoon band concerts. Opening addresses by Wayne Sherrill and Rev Youngblood. Music by bands and choirs, solos by Miss Ballard and Bro Rosier. Reading by Chas Cole Jr. Visiting Sunday Schools invited to participate. Milltown Lodge No 661 F and A M calls all members to attend Saturday night meeting. Chas A Young secretary.
The Boone Township Sunday School Convention at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church drew a full day program from 11 AM to 5 PM with a hearty noon dinner. Speakers included Wayne Miller of Indianapolis and John H. Thet, with musical numbers, deputations, and electing officers for the Boone Township Sunday School Association.
The St Peter Lutheran Sunday School of Franklin township held its Fifty Sixth Annual Celebration in Conrad Richert's grove near the church drawing about 3000 attendees from across the county. Speakers included Rev W L Burger Rev W D Rosenbarger Rev M C Patterson and others with music by Corydon's Boy Scout Band.
Crandall defeats Borden 18 to 8 before 500 fans at Crandall. Robi Thomas makes a running one handed catch in the sixth. Owsley shines for Borden in the field as he snagged W Emily’s line drive. McKinley of Borden allows nine hits and four runs before relieved by Coats who holds Crandall to four hits and four runs. Crandall faces Louisville Aeme Cola Team at Crandall Sunday August 5.
Corydon State Bank raises capital stock from 50000 to 75000 dollars with a reserve fund of 19250 dollars, totaling 94250 dollars in capital and reserves. The notice promotes safety boxes for rent and four percent interest on time deposits, praising the bank’s service and inviting customers to bank there.
The Hill Grove Christian Sunday School held its annual gathering in the grove near Corydon, July 28, with programs by multiple Sunday Schools. Rev W G Connor served as master of ceremonies. Rev F J Carr and Lew M O Bannon spoke. five to six hundred attendees shared a noon potluck and heard a lesson on Vision Vicissitudes and Victory. Willard Wisemar led as superintendent.
The program lists events for the Moberly S S picnic at Cole's Grove on August 4 starting 9 A M with barnyard golf croquet and jumping contests. It includes songs recitations addresses solos duets piano numbers and church-related offerings with dates and participant names such as Rev Horace Sonner Dr M A Farr and Janet Alexander.
Mr and Mrs Frank W Shireman and family return from an eleven day car journey to Waverly Wisconsin and nearby locales They visited Earl Shireman cornets with Art Paynes Orchestra They covered 561 miles Corydon to Waverly Beach with over 400 miles on concrete The trip included a two day stop in Chicago and highlighted good crops and a pleasant drive noting Waverly Beach on Lake Winnebago a summer resort city
The Heidelberg Sunday School plans a celebration tomorrow August 2 in the grove west of the Corydon church three miles southwest. A strong program features speakers Dr M A Farr district superintendent Rev W H Howerton of New Albany Rev J G Moore of Corydon and a Baptist preacher who spoke at Albert Stover's last Saturday night.
The board of trustees of the Motherly M E Church appoints August 3 to supervise grave reveiling and tombstone lining. Relatives with loved ones buried in the cemetery are asked to bring lunch shovels wheelbarrows and assist in maintaining the cemetery property.
President Warren G. Harding lies seriously ill at a San Francisco hotel during a halted 15 000 mile tour. Five attending physicians report a serious condition with one lung affected and white blood cell count at 16800 with 82 percent polymorphonuclears. News indicates signs of improvement as Mrs. Harding nurses at his bedside.
An ice cream social at Albert Stover’s home south of Corydon drew a large crowd for Shiloh church and Sunday School benefit. A man, unnamed Baptist minister, spoke for the Ku Klux Klan and was invited to Heidelberg Sunday School events. The Fiery Cross was shown and many Klan members attended amid a stormy night. Some reports say the speaker hailed from Chicago.
Mr and Mrs Herman Fessell and daughter Alvina hosted a large relatives and friends gathering on Sunday night July 22 1923 to celebrate their son and brother Casper s fifteenth birthday. The party featured refreshments dancing social chat and live music by Herman Fessel Marshall Potter and Hugh Byrne with vocal by Lillian Gill and Gladys Hopper. Attendees included many Fessell and Gettelfinger and Nolot kin and neighbors.
Edna Potter and Herman Schoen wed at 6:30 PM July 17 at the Methodist parsonage with Rev. W. H. Howerton officiating. The couple, from Loulaville and New Albany, hosted a reception at the Cline home with ice cream and cake as friends and relatives from Harrison County extended best wishes. Attendees included Anna Adolph Leafy Bliss Elizabeth Powers Dorothy Taylor Walter Cunningham Geo Hoover Earl Ferris Cline Leo Taylor and Mr and Mrs Al Cline.
The Ramsey Camp Meeting at the Camp Grounds south of Ramsey, owned by the Harrison County Holiness Association, runs ten days from August 10 to August 19. This nineteenth annual event features Rev. W. S. Shepard, Rev. I. M. Ellis, and Burrel Sparks, with a revival and love feast for all attendees. New road connections via Corydon Fredericksburg and Corydon Junction improve access, especially at night and Sundays. A. J. Davis of Milltown serves as president and Geo. F. Pinaire of Spencer township as secretary.
A kitchen shower and chaiivari were given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Biddle near Rehoboth Boone township on Saturday night July 28 in honor of the marriage of their son Davis L to Miss Montella Lamb of New Albany. The event featured many attendees, gifts, cake and cigars, and well wishes for a long and happy life together.
A cheerful gathering took place at John J. Seipel's home on Sunday with numerous guests from Louisville and nearby towns. Attendees shared ice cream, lemonade and cake, and the hosts reported an overall pleasant afternoon.
Samuel Glixman and Mrs Kate Rusk thank friends for support after Emma Glixman’s funeral at Corydon M E Church and Cedar Hill cemetery. Special thanks to Elder W A Young of Lafayette and Rev J H Toombs for conducting and assisting, and to church singers and members.
The church will not hold preaching services until Sunday August 19. Sunday School meets at 9:30 each Sunday and the Bible Class continues Wednesday evenings during vacation. Public invited. Mark Harris, Minister.
