Hogs at low prices threaten farmer gains under tariffs
Hogs on foot in Chicago bring the lowest prices since 1912 with prices as low as 6.75 per hundredweight. Cattle and hogs sell at depressed figures as tariff policies under Fordney McCumber and earlier Taft era fail to raise farm prices. Farm Bureau experts estimate the tariff costs farmers about 3000000 dollars annually while doing little to boost agricultural profitability.
