Hoover sees inland waterway link boost farming and industry
Secretary Hoover told United Press that a vast inland waterway system connecting the Mississippi and its tributaries with the Great Lakes and intracoastal routes could lower transport costs, keep Midwest factories from moving east, and help American farmers meet Argentine and Australian competition by Liverpool markets. He outlined four segments, current progress, and that the project could be paid by annual rate savings.
