Music as Medicine at Hospital Sparks Hope for Violent Patients

The Federation of Women's Clubs secured approval to test music therapy on violent patients at a municipal hospital. A plane arrived, music began, and a dozen women, once considered hopeless, crowded the piano and sang. Faces relaxed, voices softened, and one former picker of threads stood and sang loudly. The experiment showed notable calming effects and suggested music’s broader medical potential in mental health care. A separate note praises empathetic policing after a New York officer helped a 19 year old Park sleeper find work, earning a suspended sentence and commendation from the judge.
