A luncheon at Hotel Corry Street noon today reported 444 in cash pledged to the Community Chest campaign. Milon L. Brown, campaign chairman, said the drive progresses satisfactorily and will likely succeed. A house to house vase will be conducted Friday morning by women workers. People absent can mail contributions to chest headquarters in the Municipal building.
Pennsylvania State College Extension will run a Preparatory Mathematics class at the Junior High School with Bunnell of the Engineering Extension guiding. Sessions are Monday and Thursday evenings for fifteen weeks, with Hoffmaster supervising vocational courses. Foremen from Standard Automotive and nine employees from the Gas and Electricity Company are enrolled. The course refunds half the fee for those who complete it, and more courses may follow if ten members join.

Senator Norris of Nebraska will broadcast a pro Smith speech from Omaha on Saturday night. The Progressive League aims to mobilize up to 5 million votes from former La Follette supporters to help Alfred Smith win the presidency, with focus on the middle West and Muscle Shoals water power issues.

Edward Carroll of East street sustained a very serious head injury after being struck by a cable in Erie Railroad yards during sewer work. He was rushed to Corry hospital and remained in serious condition. Earl Racey of West was injured when a large plank fell on his right foot, fracturing bones, and was treated by Dr Kibler.
In Walkerville Ontario a pilot RH Soundy faced provincial arrest for failing to strap in his student Hor Strever, 20, during a flight that ended in a nose dive from 3000 feet. Strever, a novice with limited hours, plunged to the ground while Soundy held on briefly then regained grip and survived.
Alfred Wi Tormey, held in the Allegheny County graft inquiry into slot machine operations, is set to testify today after appearing before grand jurors. Forney, serving a six month federal sentence, is among the last to be examined as witnesses compile presentments.
