President Eisenhower requests a possible U S Air Force Academy appointment for the son of Capt. Iven Kincheloe Jr who was killed testing an experimental aircraft near Edmonds AFB California. The move recalls F D Roosevelt’s similar gesture for Colin Kelly’s son. The letter was sent to Kincheloe’s widow and a duplicate filed with the National Archives. After Elections What The New Congress May Do
Washington reports two weeks after the election, noting a crushing Republican defeat and voter preference for Democrats. It surveys possible Senate shifts to curb Southern filibusters, possible civil rights timing for 1960, and how party unity could affect the 1960 nomination. It ponders liberal and conservative Senate forces, Johnson's clout, and the chances for bipartisan programs, concluding to wait and see.
