HILI, AIR FORCE BASE, Utah AP two Air Force officers who bailed out of a crippled cargo plane are believed dead or missing after five days in the blizzard swept Wasatch mountains. Capt Donald Liggett and Lt Donald Born were among seven men who parachuted Friday night when an engine failed over the rugged range east of the base. Rescue crews found three others alive but Sgt Reyno Feltner Sgt Walter Bigelow and Cpl Ray Copeland were later located. The fate of Liggett and Born remained uncertain as temperatures dropped and search efforts paused amid weather conditions.
Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Vassily Kuznetsov proposed an international treaty to bar flights carrying nuclear weapons over foreign territory and international waters. Fire Chief J D Mahanwald and six additional units battled the blaze discovered at 2 pm by a Rosen employee's son. Most cattle were elsewhere as neighbors contained the fire. A head on collision between a car and a pickup near San Augustine Texas killed 10 to 19 people and injured two, with four children and seven family members among the dead. Thelma McCauley died Saturday at Warren State Hospital after five years in semi consciousness from brain injuries suffered in a Route 219 crash on September 2, 1953. Her husband James, a Sharon worker, never returned home and has since moved to Pittsburgh. Funeral services were held today and burial followed in All Saints Cemetery beside her two daughters.
George Klinger, 19, of Seneca Street, had his driving privileges suspended for two years after attempting to flee city police on East Smith Street on October 9. He was apprehended and cited, then held in Erie County Jail until today. Judge Burton Laub ordered continued confinement and probation terms to be completed, plus costs.
M. J. Nelson, 49, managing editor of the WHO news bureau in Des Moines for WHO and WHO-TV, died yesterday of a heart attack. Born in Volin, South Dakota, he had worked at WHO since 1943.
