Three more diagnosticians have been enlisted by physicians fighting to save singer Roberta. She is in critical condition at Cedar of Lebanon Hospital as six doctors continue to work on her case. Her illness began with bronchial pneumonia and then spread.
Huntsville based reports state Explorer III, launched March 6 at Cape Canaveral, will disintegrate today after an extended mission. The 31 pound 80 inch instrumented tube will burn up in Earth's atmosphere due to drag. Army scientists note orbital data showed a highly elliptical orbit with apogee near 1,700 miles and perigee around 117 miles.
Washington investigators pressed former publisher John Fox to present factual details linking federal influence to his business opponents. Bernard Goldfine, via aide Sherman Adams, belatedly claimed Fox had substantial documents to supply, which the subcommittee had not requested. Fox denied collusion, accusing Adams and Goldfine of smear while alleging powerful Eisenhower era forces undermined the Boston Post, a publication Fox once owned.
In Frazers Township near Allegheny County, 74 year old Miss Olive Shornhorst died after she reentered a burning two story farm house to aid her sister Mrs. Clara Davis. Davis escaped injury and could not explain why she returned inside.
Centerville sighted a 12 16 p m derailment as fourteen loaded coal cars of a 78 car Pennsylvania Railroad freight train left the tracks. Sparks flew and coal scattered along Route 8 while the train was uncoupled. No injuries reported and wreckage stretched north of Mageetown road. A rear pusher engine jammed cars into a tight space. Local residents inspected piles of coal by flashlight amid damaged cars and twisted rails. The train originated from Ol City and was bound for Corry.
Westover Massachusetts witnesses recount a KC 135 tanker radiating heat as it disintegrated seconds after takeoff. Six newsmen among the dead included Daniel J. Coughlin of AP and Norman Montellier of UPI. Brig Gen Donald W Saunders among the victims. The aircraft skidded across the Massachusetts Turnpike before exploding, wreckage strewn for miles. The fourth plane was ready to take off when the crash occurred, ending the cross Atlantic speed record attempt.
At Brize Norton air base a U S Air Force tanker set a new New York to London speed record of five hours 22 minutes 29 80 seconds on the transatlantic flight. A second Stratotanker followed with a faster time than previous routes but the plan to attempt New York to London after a stopover was dropped when a third tanker crashed at Westover Air Force Base killing 15. The Pentagon reported times and noted the mission demonstrated airlift capability as jet tankers for strategic points worldwide.
Carlyle F. Barnes, president of Associated Spring Corporation, outlines a plan to mitigate recession effects through a "Springback Formula" stressing customer importance, cost control, clear communication, and sustained effort across divisions in the United States and Canada. He spoke during a stop at the Raymond Division focal plant, urging all employees to improve across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and sales to ensure long term profitability.

Mrs Sloan watched an abandoned oil well three miles north of Titusville begin to flow last night. About 30 barrels spilled before a storage tank was brought in. The well, last producing in 1936, slowed to roughly one barrel per hour after the spurt. Veteran oil men called it unusual for a Pennsylvania well to spout oil, suggesting underground pressure may have forced it up.
Robeson, the Negro singer, and Corliss Lamont, a Columbia University lecturer, yesterday obtained passports after years of denial tied to questions about Communist party membership. The Supreme Court last week ruled that passports may not be withheld based on beliefs or associations.
The House Appropriations Committee cut 757 million dollars from President Eisenhower’s foreign aid request for fiscal 1959. The panel’s action would leave the aid program with 3,199,002,400 in new money, plus 4,142,000,000 in new obligational authority when combined with carryover funds. The panel praised the compromise while criticizing wasteful spending and warned of continued pressure to obtain more funds.
Washington Republicans urged an emergency extension of expiring farm laws after the House defeated a proposed multibillion-dollar omnibus farm bill by 214 to 171. The bill would have included price supports for wheat, cotton, rice, feed grains, and mile. The vote blocked floor consideration and reflected a rare cross-party clash over ag policy.
Two motorists escaped injury yesterday morning when their cars collided at Riceville Corners on Route 77. Warren Wetzel 55 Norris town Pa eastbound on 77 pulled in front of David R Spahr 20 Turentum. Wetzel failed to see Spahr approaching from the right at a blinking red light. Damage totaled about 250 to Spahr car and 28 to Wetzel vehicle. No arrests reported and charges likely.
