An Erie man and his son were hospitalized after their car rolled over along Route 4 near Wattsburg yesterday afternoon. The vehicle left the roadway, veered through roadside brush, and struck a crossing area before stopping. State Police said the driver and passenger sustained serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
President Eisenhower condemned the House Appropriations Committee for slashing foreign aid by 872 million dollars from his 3.95 billion request for the next fiscal year. New York tanker Empress Bay turned across the Nebraska s bow just before a collision that ripped her port side. Capt Oskar F Olsson of the Nebraska testified before a Coast Guard inquiry as Empress Bay and crew were lost. Pilot Haughn said the tanker failed to answer signals and gave four short blasts.
A 9 year old girl Eller Eller and her pet terrier Trixy died hours apart in a fire in Maul Florida. Eller suffered burns after lighting paper with a cigarette lighter and told relatives of her dog before passing. The terrier was killed when struck by a car later that night. Family labeled it a terrible accident and plan a small monument for Trixy.
City Treasurer Carl Smith reminds taxpayers of the Monday 5 pm deadline to pay 1958 city taxes at face value. $19,945 remains unpaid from the tax duplicate, which totaled $1,062,940. Taxpayers have paid $92,319 in personal and property levies. after Monday a 5 percent penalty applies.

Two Mill Village women suffered nose lacerations when their car struck a pole in Mill Village last night about 8:90. Ruth Fields, who operated the car, attempted a U turn and lost control. Her mother, Mrs. Viola Cain, was the second victim. Both were treated at a village physician's office and released. About $200 damage to the vehicle was reported.
