A six engine bomber from Forbes Air Force Base suffered major damage after a two hour test flight. The crew chose to bail out but ultimately landed the aircraft safely with six crew aboard. Major Lewis Chase described a tense descent from 15 000 feet as the plane shed a wing and the engine detached. The engine landed in a farmhouse yard about 50 miles away.
Cape Canaveral reports the Vanguard rocket suffered a second stage ignition failure for the fifth time in six tries. The 72 foot Navy launch failed after the 20 inch 20 pound satellite was released, the same fate as its two predecessors. Only success came March 1 with a grapefruit sized satellite.

The average daily census was 50 with 446 births and 7 deaths. 302 major and 879 minor surgeries were performed. Eight directors were re elected and officers renamed. The building fund for a new addition closed with total project cost 62 136. Superintendent Edgar Alexander named vice president of the Northwestern Regional Hospital Association and slated to speak at a regional accountants meeting. The meeting considered changing corporate setup to a board of incorporators.

Fire of undetermined origin today destroyed about one third of a hat block long building of Ma je Tne in Sharpsburg. Damage is estimated at least $60,000 with remaining machinery valued at $30,000. Fire officials provided the figures and the origin remains undetermined.
