Fight Over Economic Controls Heats Up In Congress
Washington July 16 The fight over economic controls resumes as administration forces rally from setbacks. A late showdown looms on price rollbacks with a proposed ban on future rollbacks and to kill a 10 percent beef price rollback. The proposal, part of a bill extending the defense production act, faces a coalition of Republicans and southern Democrats backing bans on rollbacks for farm and some industrial products. The bloc has already blocked subsidies on agricultural products, beef quotas, and defense plant expansion.
