Protest Not to Thwart E R R Plans
Meadville reports Erie Railroad plans would shift heavy repair work to Hornell New York despite Meadville residents opposition. James, the railroad’s general superintendent of native power, says about 600 local workers could be laid off if the move is completed while Hornell shops would gain full time work and Meadville production shops would retain several hundred workers. The shift would also impact Hornell with a similar employment effect. Currently the railroad repairs about 789 locomotives annually, down from over 1400 years ago.
