Coronado High School Band and Chorus Stage Evening

The Coronado high school band directed by Hal H Bremer and the Chorus led by Bernhard L Bernard performed an evening of music at the school theater. A large audience attended and appreciated the students musical talent.

Rehearsal Tonight For Helen Sweeney School Recital

Dress rehearsal for the Spring Dance Recital of the Helen Sweeney school of dance features Nina Kay Kahne Chopin Waltz and Claribel Fisher Liebesfreud directed by Miss Elfreda Farmer musical director. A ballet of tots ages two and a half to four plus a finale by the same group. over 20 girls in the finale titled Springtime Pastels. Safety Girls sponsor the event to be held at the high school auditorium at 8 p.m. on May 14 and 15.

Russian Folk Tale At Story Hour At Library

At the library story hour on Thursday children hear a Russian folk tale full of action. An other chapter of Tom Sawyer follows about how he nearly won a Bible at Sunday school. The Museum of Man speaker who was to appear will come at a future time.

Attendance Rises in Lawn Bowling Through Early 1948

Attendance at the lawn bowling league grew as the sport organized. After January’s start, 59 members joined, February reached 170, and March climbed to 225 bowlers.

San Diego Yellowtail Derby Returns With Prizes

The San Diego Junior Chamber announces the 1948 Yellowtail Fishing Derby from May 15 to August 22 with finals on September 4. Top 300 qualifiers win entry to Derby Day, with the largest yellowtail overall earning a 1948 two door Dodge sedan. Winners receive a trophy, $500 prize, and over 50 merchandise prizes.

Coronado Photo Arts Club Exhibits Equipment and Contests

Coronado Photo Arts members viewed a Cav alcade display of photographic equipment and 100 models in stage settings at Pacific Square. A May contest will feature pictures from the last meeting shown at Elliott's Camera Shop. Billie Sparks modeled for the exhibit. Winning April prints titled Cover Contest were first Theodore Brandes second Thomas Vaughter third Richard Walters. Honorable mentions Virgil Nichols James Miller.

Flower Show at San Diego County Fair Expands for Summer

The Flower Show at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, running June 25 to July 5, will be the largest ever. Fair manager E O Huslick and show builder M Salsberry report heavy demand from commercial and amateur exhibitors. The orchid display sponsored by San Diego County will compete with other blooms for visitor approval.

Hawaii Paradise screening at Coronado Fine Arts

A film titled Hawaii Paradise will be shown at the Coronado School of Fine Arts located in the VFW building at 2 p.m. Thursday. The event is open to the public free of charge.
