Coronado Day Planned at San Diego County Fair

Coronado Day is designated for June 28 at the Del Mar County Fair with gate attendance expected to exceed 300 000. Coronado Chamber of Commerce directors will decide participation at their May 21 meeting and volunteers are urged to contact the chamber office for a proposed one hour entertainment program.

Ground Breaking For St Pauls Sunday School Building

Ground was broken for the Sun day school of St Pauls Methodist church Sunday morning. The Rev Hylton Sanders led the first shovelful with Mrs James Burge and Mrs Elizabeth Fifield among the early spade volunteers. Others included Charles Cordell H A Benedict Kenneth Bandel Mrs Martin Wicghus Major Douglas Catherwood Elwood Tysor Bop Millar and several church members as plans for enlarged quarters move ahead. Bandel says the project is long needed and hopes for renewed local interest as construction begins.

Bankers Converge on City For Two Big Conventions

About 300 members of the Association of Reserve City Bankers opened a three day meeting at the Hotel del Coronado led by Julian B. Baird of First National Bank of St. Paul. The event precedes the California Bankers Association fifty seventh annual convention with speakers from major banks including O T Jones American Trust San Francisco and J R Jones Security First National Bank Los Angeles.

Coronado 20-30 Holds Joint Meeting With Ocean Beach Club

The Coronado 20-30 Club and Ocean Beach Club met at the trans-bay headquarters to honor International Good Will Week. Dr. James Vernetti discussed World Council of Young Men's Service Clubs work. Jim Caterina outlined 20-30 International aims and Dale Shearer spoke on the Apex of Australia Club.

Lions Donate Seeing Eye Dog to Dr James Watts

Lions Club completed a Seeing Eye dog donation for Dr Frank Watts of Chula Vista after his previous guide died two months ago. President John Crise said the $350 dog was donated by the club and Rev Kenneth Carson escorted Watts to Glendale to obtain the animal. Crise announced the Lions will sponsor a summer softball team.
