Coronado Yacht Club Small Boat Regatta Preview

The Coronado Yacht Club plans a weekend regatta with two races on Saturday and one on Sunday. Flattie Class leads entries, with Ay Ay Ay placing first in the series and Bettty and Betty also noted. Regional sailors from Alamites Bay and Los Angeles expected, along with Senecit Cuba. Race Committee Chairman Jim Miller announces Valiant will sail all three races. An informal club gathering and entertainment are planned.

Coronado's Hotel del Coronado hosts the 34th annual tennis tournament drawing numerous Coronadian entrants and notable players. Participants include Dr. Walter Kraus and family, George and Georgia Bunker, Logan Jenkins, Margot Ketcham, and many others. Stars featured are Beverly J. Baker of Santa Monica U S junior singles champion, Marjorie McCord of Berkeley US junior doubles champion, and Maureen C Connolly of San Diego US junior champion, among others.

Navy Reservists Set for Honolulu Cruise This Summer

About 1000 reservists from the Eleventh Naval District head to Honolulu Saturday for the first All Naval Reserve Cruise of the summer. Training at shore bases will be applied aboard the ships USS Wedderburn Uhlmann and Twining during a three week voyage.

Woman's Editor Margaret Black Joins Washington Daily News

Margaret Black former associate editor of The Coronado Compass has been named editor of the women's page at the Washington Daily News. She left Coronado last year to join her husband Lt. Col. Edward Black at the War College in Washington D C. She is the daughter of Capt. and Mrs. E A Cobey of 500 Glorietta Blvd.

Zimbo the mongrel dog returns home after six day city detour

A four year old dog owned by Dick Stahl of Coronado vanished in San Diego while his mother’s son ran errands. After six days of wandering through downtown traffic and city streets the dog reappeared on the porch of the Stahl home hungry and exhausted. No explanation for the route is given.

La Avenida Cafe Gains National Fame in Ford Times Feature

The Ford Times devotes a full page to La Avenida in Coronado California naming its Romaine Salad and a painting by Dom Lupo. The feature notes Spanish and early California architecture and murals by Ramos Martinez drawing guests from across the country. La Avenida also had a full page in American Restaurant magazine in April.
