Navy officer trainees named from San Diego area

Richard H Weeks of 600 First Street is named by the Navy Bureau of Personnel as one of seven San Diego area principals for four year Naval Reserve officer training corps scholarships at U S colleges next fall Rep Clinton D McKin nich announced. The County Superintendent of Schools announced three Coronadans had filed candidacy papers for the Coronado Unified School District board of trustees. The candidates are Harry Burkhardt, Mrs. Corinne Carle, and Mrs. W. W. Harvey. The election is set for Friday May 20, as announced by A. E. Schaefer, Coronado superintendent of schools.

Ladies Night Gala Hosts Coronado Rotarians and Wives

Nearly 100 Coronado Rotarians and wives attended the Rotary Club Ladies Night at the Hotel del Coronado Crown Room. Dr. William T. Booth presided as toast master and event chair. Bill Perry’s orchestra provided music with Ruth Reynolds Murray and Dr. G. K. Anderson among the entertainers.

Coronado Housing Group Backs Rent De Control

A Coronado hotel and apartment owners association approved a resolution urging the City Council to act on de controlling rents following new federal rent laws. The resolution will be considered after officers gather data on Coronado rent needs. Speakers included John Cotton of the California State Apartment House Association and Rev Kenneth B Carson of the local Rent Advisory Board.

March Chest Activities Publicized by Community Group

A report to Chest President Walter Stitt from welfare chairman Lee Evans lists during March 263 calls by the Community Chest nurse in Coronado in public health work and 49 calls in her social work role. Total welfare expenditures reached 312.85 with 132.02 for milk and 119.47 for groceries. other costs covered drugs hospital and nursing home expenses utilities and more. The Chest nurse also serves as a dietician selecting foods for the aged and undernourished children, with 232 hours devoted to Chest work and about 150 telephone calls noted.
