Train Accident Kills Cage Thayer at Houston

Cage Thayer was killed by a train on the Choctaw road at Houston Thursday morning while helping unload poles on a side-track. A fellow worker also died. Thayer, 38, was born in Illinois and moved to Houston from Conway a year ago with his wife and three daughters. He married Miss Thomas of near Preston and leaves many relatives in Conway.

Pearl sales soar as Black Rock sees record gems

Black Rock on July 15 reports two notable pearl finds. Alex Hunter, colored, sold a seventy grain pearl for 1500 dollars, the first perfect pearl. E D Allen of Alicia also sold an eighty grain pearl for 1250 dollars, both in Black Rock.

Conway Victorious Over Russellville Trip Games

The Conway baseball team traveled to Russellville and won two of three games on Tuesday and Thursday, 16 to 8 and 11 to 6, while Thursday’s contest ended early to catch a train. Volley Ray made a notable right field catch in the Tuesday win, though ruled foul. Russellville’s umpire in Wednesday’s game helped their defeat. Attendance included Mrs. W. G. Hines, Miss Bertha Paine, Addison Paine, and others.

Mike Grann head cutter at Black Rock heading mill was killed on the steamer Krata on Black river near Poca hontas by a pearl buyer from Tennessee named Phillips. Phillips is in jail. Grann’s wife lives near Mayflower Ark. The Odd Fellows take charge of his remains.

School Building Burned in Springfield District

The public school building in district 25, Springfield County, Ark., about two and a half miles south of town, was destroyed by fire Saturday night. Authorities suspect incendiary origin and have not yet identified suspects.
