A Conway publication urges local residents to support home enterprises including colleges banks stores and printing offices. The message condemns sending work away to Chicago St Louis and Atlanta and stresses that towns prosper only with local patronage and cooperation.
An old advertisement extols Boschee's German Syrup as a universal remedy for severe threat and lung troubles. It claims to heal tissues, reduce inflammation, ease expectoration, and provide rest, urging buyers to try one bottle and noting availability from all druggists.
The scene splits into likely contenders for county and district offices. Prof J G Lile is seen as a possible Representative with Col J G B Simms as his likely opponent. Judge W H Duncan and J A Lea may contest Circuit Clerk, while M Strickland and J H Harrell seek Sheriff. A J Witt may run again for County Treasurer. Frank Stermer plans another run for Surveyor if desired, but no Assessor candidate is named and no County Judge is indicated. Cage Thayer was killed by a train on the Choctaw road at Houston Thursday morning while helping unload poles on a side-track. A fellow worker also died. Thayer, 38, was born in Illinois and moved to Houston from Conway a year ago with his wife and three daughters. He married Miss Thomas of near Preston and leaves many relatives in Conway.
Secretary Root tours army posts as news reports details on allotting Oklahoma lands to settlers. Other notes include shipyard strikes ending, Kid McCoy marriage rumors denied, Ambassador White's possible resignation, Capetown plague totals, a Nickle Plate bridge disaster at Springfield Pennsylvania with nine dead, and drought in Kansas.
Black Rock on July 15 reports two notable pearl finds. Alex Hunter, colored, sold a seventy grain pearl for 1500 dollars, the first perfect pearl. E D Allen of Alicia also sold an eighty grain pearl for 1250 dollars, both in Black Rock.
The Conway baseball team traveled to Russellville and won two of three games on Tuesday and Thursday, 16 to 8 and 11 to 6, while Thursday’s contest ended early to catch a train. Volley Ray made a notable right field catch in the Tuesday win, though ruled foul. Russellville’s umpire in Wednesday’s game helped their defeat. Attendance included Mrs. W. G. Hines, Miss Bertha Paine, Addison Paine, and others.

Mike Grann head cutter at Black Rock heading mill was killed on the steamer Krata on Black river near Poca hontas by a pearl buyer from Tennessee named Phillips. Phillips is in jail. Grann’s wife lives near Mayflower Ark. The Odd Fellows take charge of his remains.
The public school building in district 25, Springfield County, Ark., about two and a half miles south of town, was destroyed by fire Saturday night. Authorities suspect incendiary origin and have not yet identified suspects.
A backwoods church on a hot Sabbath sees the minister redirect the sermon to a thermometer and warn of hotter afterlife if listeners do not mend their ways, a quippy note from the Atlanta Constitution.
Ohio Democrats nominate James Killbourne for governor Anthony Howells for lieutenant governor Joseph Hidy for supreme court Harry R. Young for clerk M. B. McCarty for attorney general R. P. Alshire for state treasurer The platform opposes monopolies urges equal taxation tariff reform restoration of merchant power Monroe Doctrine and direct US Senate election. The convention excludes Bryan and supports naval strength and territorial expansion.
There will be a re union of the Ex-Federal soldiers from this and neighboring counties at Enola on July 24 and 25. The event promises gatherings, addresses, and reunion activities for veterans.
