State takes a hand starts an investigation of whitecapping outrage
Attorney-General Bingham traveled to Rush county to probe the Wednesday night assault on John Tribbey a well known farmer. Eighteen masked men beat him with nails driven into a board then bound him to a tree covered his nude body with pitch and feathers before dawn. Tribbey’s wife accused him of brutal treatment, while neighbors say Tribbey faced separate suspicions and past actions. The governor and attorney general plan a thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
