Indiana Senate opens debate on a county local option bill as Republicans press to tighten the measure. After morning delays, a conference produced minor amendments aligning the bill with the Mattingly provisions and removing dual option language.
The Senate debates an option bill with Republican and Democratic divisions clear. Some Republicans would withhold votes while Durre Hugg and Koehne face doubt due to illness. Democrats plan unanimous No. House avoids a showdown to prevent a postponement fight as Taiey and leaders seek a smoother path.
The Congregate City Council recalls the special election on the water issue and adopts a legal course. Mayor Barrows reads the repeal ordinance and a supplementary resolution directing bids for an up to date pumping station and water system. The plan awaits council approval and a voters’ decision after bidding.

Samuel W. Beck, 62, longtime Connersville resident and W. H Beck's Sons clothing partner, died yesterday at 4 15 PM at his home on West Seventh Street after years of illness. He was born February 4, 1846 in Falmouth Fayette County and served as city councilman. He married Emma Sparks in 1870 and had a brother C D Beck and a niece Genieve Beck surviving. Funeral arrangements to be announced.
The mayor directs the water committee chair, city attorney, and city engineer to prepare a bid notice for a contract to build and complete a modern pumping plant, supply water to the city, connect with mains, lease the water system to the city for years, and set a fixed sale price at lease end. If proposals meet terms, the council will present the best bid to voters for decision.
