Directions for burning soft coal in a cook stove
The article explains that soft coal burns best when the stove area smoke pipes and chimney are kept clean. It advises cleaning the ash pit and dampers, using plenty of wood, and arranging fuel to prevent large spaces for coal to sift through. Before adding more coal use dampened wood to start a steady flame.
Handling and Maintaining a Coal Stove Fire
Instructions cover building a fire with soft coal, managing dampers, and keeping a steady flame. Tips include adding small amounts of coal, adjusting upper and ash-pit dampers, and maintaining exposed coals to ignite gases. For overnight fires, build a coal bed and cover lightly to preserve heat.
