Memorial Day Exercises Parade Honoring Veterans in Concord

The town held Memorial Day ceremonies through a two mile parade from Stow Street to Monument Square, with veterans cars, police, and staff including Col. Dolan and Maj. Dee. The event featured flag lowering at retreat and wreaths, with participation from World War I and II veterans and representatives from Waves Wacs Nurses Corps.

32 Children Receive Holy Communion at St Bernard’s

At St Bernard’s parish Concord Rev Michael J Burke marked his 80th year as priest with 32 children receiving First Communion last Sunday at 8 15 am. Rev Mark Sullivan assisted. music by the junior choir with Juliette A MacLean at organ. A breakfast followed at the rectory.

Loughlin resigns as Concord Recreation Commission chair

Edward F. Loughlin of 375 Main Street West Concord resigns as chairman of the Concord Recreation Commission. A successor will be named at a joint meeting with the Concord Board of Selectmen next Monday at 8 o'clock at the Town House. He has chaired the commission since its formation seven years ago and contributed to the town's summer program and recreational improvements. His term would have expired in 1947.

Judith Taylor Betrothed to Donald Webster in September wedding planned

Judith Emelie Taylor daughter of Mrs Marvin Cooper Taylor and Judith Taylor of Concord and Washington announces engagement to Donald Webster son of Mr and Mrs Richard Webster of Baltimore Maryland. Taylor a Concord Academy graduate class of 1941 and School of Museum and Fine Arts 1945 debuted 1941-42 season. Webster a University of Virginia graduate member of ODK and Raven Society served as U S Navy supply officer in World War II. Plans for a September wedding.

Voting Hours For Primaries Concord Details

Concord voters will have primary polls open June 18 from noon to 7 30. Precinct 1 votes at the Veterans Building while West Concord Precinct II uses the Harvey Wheeler School. Harold Tompkins seeks a third term in the legislature and is unopposed. Otis Whitney seeks re election to the Governor's Council from the Third District.

Middlesex Camp Opens June 30 At Concord Camp

Middlesex County Extension Service officials announced the opening of Cambridge area camp at Ashby on Sunday June 30. County Camping Committee set five weeks for girls and three for boys. First applicants include Charles Nixon Wayland Susan MacCulloch Sudbury and Thomas Rooney Acton.

Concord Votes to Raise 1946 Tax Rate by Five Dollars

The town of Concord approved a new 1946 tax rate of 38.60, up five dollars from 1945’s 33.60. State commissioner Henry F. Long signed the rate, the highest since 1935, driven by large town meeting appropriations. Valuation rises to 10,785,835 with 2,464 poll taxpayers, 29 more than last year.

Middlesex County 4 H Girls Day is slated for Wednesday June 22 at Concord High School starting at 10 in the morning. The event features the County Dress Revue and blue ribbon winners from local exhibits compete for four spots to represent the county at the State Contest in Amherst.

Nine Concord Teachers Farewell Party Held

In Concord, nine school teachers were bid farewell at a Monday evening event at the Howard Johnson restaurant. Four are retiring: W. Edward Lamb, Lilian E. Weir, Martin F. Goodwin, and Josephine A. Boynton, who total 109 years of service with the district. The remaining five move to other assignments. Willard H. Smith presented them silver. The program was arranged by the faculty with Joseph O'Brien in charge.

A father and sons banquet for Concord High School athletes from all teams will be held Thursday night June 13 at 7 o clock in the school cafeteria. Guest speakers will attend and moving pictures of sporting events will be shown.

Concord Academy held its graduation yesterday afternoon with 24 girls receiving diplomas. Miss J Josephine Tucker headmistress presided, eight graduates from Concord named, awards and speeches accompanied the program, tea followed the closing chorus.

Cargill Building May Be Cut Into 11 Apartments

Concord town officials consider converting the Hugh Cargill barn on Walden Street into an 11 unit veteran housing complex. The plan involves 10 apartments in the barn and an adjoining shed to house about 11 veterans, with a central heating plant and a resident to manage maintenance.
