Walter M. Cox Dies in Colorado at 87

Walter M. Cox, brother of Claude Cox of Comanche, died in a Pueblo, Colorado hospital September 14 after a long illness. Burial was in a Pueblo cemetery. He was born near Lake Charles, Louisiana, on May 25, 1855, moved to Smith County, Texas in 1869, to Comanche County in 1876, and left the area about 46 years ago. He was married in 1872 in Smith County to Mattie Pendergrass.

Benton Layman Back From Huntsville

Benton Layman, once serving a life sentence in the Texas Penitentiary, returned home to complete six months on a year reprieve. He had eight years served before reprieve and 414 months since recall. The Brownwood case ended with dismissal after testimony that Layman loaned his car to two youths and liquor was found after their return.
