Comanche County farmers push soil conservation drive
County farmers expect record soil conservation activity in 1945 as Congress funds enable practices. Austrian Winter Peas and common vetch are distributed to 192 farmers with more seed due mid September. A. E. Boyd and E. L. Pierson urge participation through AAA offices or local committee men. Fifty seven wheat producers applied for all risk insurance covering 67 farms. Dairy payments remain in effect for July September milk sales.

Culling Hens by Simple Steps for Flock heads
A practical guide outlines a humane low effort method for culling laying hens in flocks, especially White Leghorns. It advises penning birds, looking for shriveled combs, yellow beaks, saggy abdomens, diarrhea, pale weak hens, grey eyes, and low producers to remove them. It notes culling saves feed, frees housing, and can fetch good market prices. Mr and Mrs Aubrey Findley of Fort Worth visited relatives in Comanche last week.
