Morris Teaches Coastal Bermuda Waterway Conservation
E Y Morris of four miles north of De Leon cooperated with the Upper Leon Soil and Water Conservation District in 1961 to draft a plan and build a waterway to divert excess water and prevent erosion. He used four rows of peanuts parallel to the waterway to manage Coastal Bermuda runners that infiltrate cropland. When needed, cultivators cut four rows first to keep Coastal from invading fields, protecting the peanut crop and field soil. Visitors from Tye Austin Comanche and others visited the Layman family Sunday.
