Zion Lutheran Church to Observe 80th Anniversary

Priddy Zion Lutheran Church marks 80 years of service with a rededication service at 10 30 a m on October 26 followed by a box luncheon and an informal program. A time capsule to be opened October 26 1989 will be placed on the east wall containing the day special program a church family photo album and Bible editions. Rev R Winkelmann invites all interested to attend.

The First United Methodist Church invites a covered dish supper in the fellowship hall on Sunday night October 26 at 5 30 p m followed by a church wide mission study in the sanctuary at 6 45 featuring a filmstrip titled Between the Dark and the Dayling and the theme Reconcili ation in a Broken World.

Soda Springs Home and Proctor Bait House Destroyed by Fire

Fire destroyed the George Ripley farm home in Soda Springs on Friday October 17 wiping out most belongings after a sale to Cecil Brownlee and a planned move to Comanche. A separate Proctor bait house used by Bob Arms wholesale minnow business also burned with total loss. Comanche Volunteer Fire Department responded to both blazes.

United Fund To Open Monday Campaign in Comanche

The 1959 United Fund drive in Comanche will begin Monday led by City Chairman Ben Cleveland with precinct chairs David Keene Ted Durham Jerry Hinshaw and Grate Pirkle. Ten agencies under the UNITED FUND banner aim for a $7075 goal serving the city’s entire population.

One Gift Works Many Wonders 1969 United Fund Appeal

The appeal lists contributions from various organizations toward a 1969 goal of 7075 dollars. Cagle Named Parts Manager at Clemons Motor Co

Max Cagle aged 26 and formerly of Dallas is appointed parts manager at Clemons Motor Co. He lives on a Priddy area farm and began in parts work at 14. He is married to Carolyn Jean with two sons Jimmy Don and Michael Dean. The Clemons owners invite Comendicar patrons to meet him.

Comanche hosts a three game slate on Thursday night with 7th grade Paps opening at 5 30 pm versus Stephenville. The 8th Grade follows against Stephenville 7th Grade, then Hodges B team meets Coleman B team in the final action of the evening.

No Experts In Last Week's Grid Contest

The Comanche Chief notes a low turnout for the Chief football contest with only one contestant who missed four games. Tie breakers used Comanche versus Clyde. John D. Hicks wins second place with a year’s subscription, C. L. Northcutt takes third and a Chief subscription. Stanton Reese, last week’s winner, dropped out. The paper invites more entrants as a $10 prize for a perfect entry remains possible.

Proctor Liquor Election Hearing Underway in Comanche County

District Judge Truman Roberts hears the contention of the Proctor liquor election contest filed April 18 after a April 4 1969 vote of 128 to 117 in Proctor on off premise sales of all alcoholic beverages. Hearing started October 23 with three stores selling all beverages, two beer wine shops, and three beer only outlets.

Rural United Fund Drive Progress Report

The rural United Fund drive shows good progress in the 1969 campaign as volunteers work ahead of the peanut harvest. Contributions include $32 from Mrs Robin Peacock of Mercer Gap, $74 from Mrs R G Halbert of Harmony and Brushy Gap, $21 from Mrs S G Tarpley in Downing, $26 from Donna Moore of Sidney School, and $48 from Mrs Sheldon Braeutigan of Stag Creek Community.

Jaycees Join Teen Baseball Association in Comanche

Comanche Jaycees vote to affiliate with the Texas Teen Age Baseball Association merging Little League into a statewide body. Teams may field three extra players for district games and winners advance to district and state playoffs. Dues are $5.50 per team before May 15 1970. Dallas Euless Conroe Mesquite Fort Worth and others are already affiliated.

Comanche church invites all to its second Harvest Festival on Saturday November 15 with booths opening at 10 am featuring handwork crafts baked goods canned goods and a new peanut booth. The day ends with a 5 to 7 pm barbecue supper and a closing auction of livestock gates antiques and other items.

Private Investigator Charged With Entry in Hill Case

Breckenridge date line reports private investigator James E. Hood of Houston is charged with breaking and entering linked to the Hill family gun violence case. Hood testified in trials in Breckenridge and Comanche about a shooting at Mabel Hill’s home. Hill faced murder charges in Breckenridge but was found not guilty. he later pled guilty to a separate assault with intent to murder in Comanche. Hood posted $2,000 bond and Hill also filed for divorce from Maria Hill with Roye representing him.
