The Comanche County Historical Society and De Leon Chamber of Commerce hosted a Citizens Court to decide the purpose and origin of the Old Stone Tower near De Leon. Jury members from De Leon weighed evidence from six articles, including claims the tower was an Indian meat curing plant a fort site a shot tower or a later landmark, with experts consulted to settle where it has stood and its historical meaning.

Comanche County bank deposits climbed to 24,365,781.85 across four institutions for the October 21 call. Comanche National Bank led with deposits around 7.97 million and total resources near 8.79 million, while Farmers and Merchants Bank of De Leon posted 7.98 million in total resources and 7.28 million in deposits. First State Bank of Gustine reported 1.59 million in deposits and 826 thousand in loans.

City Sales Tax To Go In Effect April 1 1970
Shoppers in the City of Comanche will pay 1 percent more on taxable items starting April 1, 1970 after a city election. About 30 percent of eligible voters cast ballots with 195 for and 159 against the tax. Mayor Gyale Pirkle and councilmen sought the election to raise 75 000 to 100 000 yearly for city improvements. The tax applies to all items eligible under state sales tax.
