Silent Father Pleads for Love on Final Mile

Poem by John H. Garrett dated May 16 1939 laments an aging father left alone by the road. He recalls hardship and hope his child remains true and may show love before the father passes, urging a simple smile as blessing on his last mile.

Autobiography of John H Garrett in Comanche Texas

John H Garrett recounts work in a 1908 lumber yard, returns to Comanche in 1910 and 1937 38, and moves from a Texas town once famed as the worst. He describes efforts to convert locals to Jesus, a loan offer refused, a filling station on Highway 10, and sacrificing his business for others. He reflects on faith and death in the final years.
