Private First Class Leonard W. Adcock USMC was wounded by a .25 caliber Japanese bullet during the Iwo Jima invasion and evacuated to the U S Naval Hospital in New Orleans. He joined the Marines March 26 1943 in El Paso after Gustine High School and played football there. He helped take six miles of the island and earned the Purple Heart and Asiatic Pacific campaign ribbons.
