A bond rally to be held at the courthouse Wednesday May 30 features Major David O J fins of Camp Bowie as the principal speaker. Comanche stores are urged to close 3 to 4 PM so owners and employees can attend and buy bonds. Lions Club aids drive with music from a military band and singing by the Purple Heart Quartet. Banks will be open for the drive and afterward to observe Memory Day.

T A Barnes Narrowly Survives Near Kassel Germany
Pvt. Thomas A Barnes Jr son of Mr and Mrs T A Barnes Manthe writes from Ballinger details of his injury near Kassel Germany about 100 miles from Berlin. He recalls being wounded after a tank battle, hiding in a cellar with wounded Germans and a German doctor, and receiving a shot in the leg before medics found him. W C McHorse, former Coleman contractor, leads the new Frozen Food Lockers in Comanche. He moved with his wife and nine year old son to 301 West Walcott Avenue and organized the project last August. Wilburn Richey Killed in Germany During World War II
Cpl. Wilburn Richey son of Mr and Mrs R R Richey of Comanche was killed in action in Germany on April 13 as reported by the War Department. The Comanche High School graduate worked in the Higginbotham Bros grocery department before enlisting and served about four years in the American forces including Hawaii and the Western Front. He leaves two younger brothers Bertis and Doyle Richey in the armed forces.

Hitt of Comanche has received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement while serving as a military policeman with the 11th Airborne Division during the Leyte Island fighting in the Philippines. J. D. Easley, a Sidney area native now visiting from Arkansas, is a retired teacher and former Fort Worth school principal for 26 years. his wife, sister of Mrs. J. E. Lamkin Pvt Bert Hayes Remains hospitalized at Brooke Field
Pvt. Bert T. Hayes of Lamkin returned to New York April 27 and is now at Brooke Field San Antonio under treatment for frozen feet and shell shock. He served with the Third Army Infantry, 90th Division, and endured five days of severe cold with only three boxes of K rations per man after his unit was cut off during the Siegfried Line breakthrough. Only Hayes and two others survived of the original fifty. the rest were killed or captured. He is a Lamkin High School and John Tarleton College graduate and hopes for a furlough to visit his parents, Mr and Mrs Harvey Hayes.
