Pfc Kenneth Tidmore awarded the Purple Heart for a jaw wound from shrapnel suffered in action against Germans on April 17 He joined the service January 1 1944 and trained at Camp Fannin Texas From S J Meade Md he went to Italy in June with the Fifth Army He also earned the Good Conduct Medal He is the son of Fred Tidmore of Sipe Springs and a 1942 Sidney High School graduate His brother in law Elmer Clark is overseas.

First GI Loan Move in County
The first GI loan in Comanche County was made last week through the Farm Security Administration to Harvey Lightfoot of De Leon. He bought a 160 acre stock farm near De Leon with a $4000 loan at 4 percent interest repayable over 20 years, borrowed through the F M National Bank of De Leon. Lightfoot, who has an honorable discharge after five years in the Navy, was one of the region’s early GI loan recipients. Roy J. Peace, Comanche County FSA supervisor, handled negotiations.

Comanche resident Alton H. Hall a U S Navy sailor and former prisoner of war died about two months before liberation of the Philippines according to a letter from a companion in the camp. The sender attended Hall's funeral noting death caused by malnutrition and starvation.

Sergeant Paul Heflin Wounded in Luxembourg Action
Sergeant Paul Heflin 27 of De Leon was wounded by 88mm shell fragments in Berburg Luxembourg while on guard. He walked to an aid station then to a field hospital and was evacuated to a United States Army hospital in England where he is convalescing. He has received the Purple Heart.
