Plains students took a three day journey to Carlsbad Cavern, the Davis Mountains, and the Sui Ross Museum at Alpine with funds from class plays and parent chaperones keeping costs low. The report also notes readers answered quiz questions, local opinions on mood and employment, and several community notices from Comanche and Dublin areas.
Mrs. Miriam A. Ferguson, once a prominent Texas governor, lives quietly on Windsor Road in Austin. She visits the Capitol sparingly, notes the rotunda portrait of her, and recalls a life of public battles while her husband Governor Jim Ferguson watches the Legislature from home.
Lawmakers move toward adjournment as major appropriation bills sit in conference. Senate passes key education and aid measures with reforms. rural aid and social programs advance. House debates a constitutional tax amendment, suspending it if failed. Final adjournment likely by the last Saturday of the month as committees reconvene days and nights.
Ed Boswell, Comanche Polan China and Jersey breeder, reports an excellent spring pig crop. Five registered Polan China sows farrowed a total of 51 pigs in four litters of 7 9 11 and 16. One sow farrowed 16 pigs last fall. Boswell is active in the Comanch County Livestock Association but could not attend a meeting due to tending sows.
Postmaster J. R. Eanes will travel to Austin for several days visiting his nephew J Eanes Reese and Mrs. Reese and to explore points of interest. He plans to tour the Texas Memorial Museum on the University campus and the O. Henry home, along with other historic sites in the capital city.
E. L. Hale, cashier of the First State Bank of Gustine, reports general conditions in Gustine are better than at any time since his association with the bank. With the downturn over a decade, he predicts 1930 will be the best year since 1929.
