Belle Dudley Hosts WMU Royal Service at First Baptist
Mrs. Belle Dudley presided over the Royal Service program of the W M U at the First Baptist Church Monday afternoon. The topic was Whatsoever Things Are of Good Report with Mrs. John Hart giving the devotional and several members including Mrs. R W H Hamilton and Mrs. K L Macon sharing in the program. The hostess served pineapple juice and ice cream sandwiches to twenty attendees.

Soldiers Honored At Murphrees Gatherings For Two Men
On Sunday June 7 a gathering at Mr and Mrs Code Murphree home honored Corp Lavion Rogers of Camp Blanding Florida and Curtis Wayne Murphree who was to be inducted into the Army June 9 Many attendees signed the register including Edgar Orrick Fenly Williford Truett Parson Gaylon McKinzie and numerous others from Mercer Gap communities A bountiful noon dinner and a mood of goodwill marked the event with prayers and best wishes for the two entering military service.

Second Lieut Howard Sturkie son of William Sturkie of Gustine weds Mozelle Penson daughter of Mr and Mrs Barney Penson at the Barksdale Field post chapel La Chaplain W H Beeby officiated. Sturkie recently completed flight training at Brooks Field and has been stationed at Barksdale for three weeks. Mozelle is a graduate of the Texas State Teachers College for Women.

Mrs J B Chilton entertained with three tables of bridge last Thursday afternoon in Alice. The living room resembled a flower show due to gladioli arrangements she grows and arranges. Orange slice cookies and almond toffee ice cream were served after the games. High score went to Mrs W T Herrick who, with Mrs Shear, received fostoria prizes. Out of town guests included Mrs R R Reid of Harlingen Mrs F T Smalling of Pampa and Mrs S Stratton of Waco.

Big Rattler Killed On Johnson Farm
Monta Laughlin killed a three and one half foot rattlesnake on the Julian Johnson place five miles west of Comanche last week. The snake was two inches in diameter and had twelve rattlers, one of the largest seen this year. Laughlin spotted it on a grape arbor and killed it with a stick. Mrs. R C Frazier of Comanche suffered a dizzy spell this week, fell, injured a hip and is seriously ill.

Farmers May Be Released From Burden of Debt
John Pogue of the Comanche County Farm Debt Adjustment and Tenure Improvement Committee invites debt-burdened farmers and reluctant creditors to the July 9 meeting at 9 30 a m at the Farm Security Administration Office in Comanche.
