Last Surviving Trail Driver Tells Of Early Experiences
Aaron Little, known as Uncle Aaron, recalls four trail boss roles from 1876 to 1883 driving cattle for Hood and Helmsley. He claims 9000 cattle moved through Indian Territory with no beef given to Indians, while facing threats and tests of nerve from armed locals. He recounts a pistol and needle gun duel in which he protected the herd, and notes heavy losses only of 17 head on a single drive as he preserved the meat for the markets.
