Schoolmaster’s Rod and Rules Recalled From Past Times
A reminiscence recalls a strict era when a teacher enforced with a hickory pole and moral edicts. Offenses ranged from misbehaving in class to boys and girls on opposite yard sides, with harsh punishments and rigid obedience. The piece blends school memories with jokes and anecdotes from a long-ago classroom.
