Manager John Carpenter's Co Manche baseball team defeated De Leon 8 to 1 Sunday afternoon behind five hit pitching by Buster Hicks who pitched seven innings and Bill Hicks who finished the game with three. Comanche scored four in the fifth, added one in the sixth and three in the seventh while De Leon scored in the eighth on Willard walks and wild throw.

Comanche County total poll tax receipts for 1940 reached 3,738, up 241 from 1939. Box No 2 remains the largest in the county with 477 payments, while Box No 1 has 461. De Leon Box 15 rose to 428 and Box 33 to 279. Gustine, Sidney, Proctor, Sipe Springs and Newburg follow with smaller totals. Deputy A ssessor-Collector H M Vineyard says county voting strength may exceed 5,000, with old age assistance enrollments and riders boosting potential voters to about 5,300 or 5,400.
