Four Quarter School Plan May Reshape Texas Education
In closing days of the Texas legislature Frances Lockwood notes a bill to switch schools to a four quarter system starting 1971 73 with three quarters per student and a same curriculum as two semesters. Benefits cited include varied curricula lower building needs and reduced vandalism with vacations fall winter or spring. Adoption nationwide reportedly lowers dropout and enables off season travel and year round work. Texas aims to shift gradually by 1973 74 and may spur year round tourism and planning for families. The report also covers local vacation returns and updates on residents visiting San Marcos and SWST College.
