The Comanche Jaycees swept all awards at Region 210's first regional meet in Brownwood hosted by the Brownwood Jaycees. Brownwood, Comanche, Granbury, Hamilton, and Goldthwaite clubs competed as a trophy prize funded by regional clubs. Comanche Jaycees won the trophy for most points. Bill Cotton won the Speak Up Contest.

Comanche vaccinates thousands of horses for VEE

Two veterinarians inoculated more than 5000 horses by noon Wednesday as new rules allow moves to a central point for vaccination. Horses must return to their premises for a four day quarantine. Vaccination is free and federally funded with state aid to curb spread.

Barefoot burglar strikes twice at Comanche home

E Paul Jeanes reports a barefoot intruder twice broke into his 302 E Summit residence. In the first raid a chicken dinner was disrupted and a distinct footprint left on the floor. The second visit saw theft of a small TV set a camera a transistor radio a flashlight and a wig with footprints leading away toward Little League Park.

Peanut producers to tour chemical weed control tests

Peanut producers are invited to join an evaluation tour conducted by Extension Agronomist Ben R. Spears. The schedule starts at the Mason Courthouse at 9:00 a.m. on July 27, proceeds to the Comanche Courthouse at 1:30 p.m., and ends with a 3:30 p.m. meeting at the Texas Peanut Producers Board office in Gorman.

June Budget Actions and Facility Moves for 1971 72

The board approved June bills and discussed Milk and Bread bids for the Lunchroom for 1971 72 with contracts set for August 9. Plans include moving the Superintendent and Tax Assessor offices into the old Band Hall with renovation to start in early August. The athletic budget for 1971 72 shows receipts of 48490 and disbursements of 18294. The Athletic Fund 1970 71 posted receipts 18801 and disbursements 18530, a 271 gain. A financial report covered Maintenance State and County and Interest and Sinking Funds for 1970 71.

Cherokeeee appoints David Smith as junior high coach

David Smith of Cherokeehe is named junior high coach and teacher for Comanche. A graduate of Angelo State College, he has coached football as assistant and basketball as head coach in Cherokeehe for the past year. He is married with one child and will relocate to Comanche before August 15 while continuing studies at Angelo State.

Assault With Deadly Weapon Charge Filed

Charges of assault with a deadly weapon were filed Tuesday against James Earl Wier 24 of Clifton after a Friday Gustine grocery store holdup. Wier released from Texas Department of Corrections a week earlier also faces Federal charges linked to the Valley Mills Post Office robbery and Federal Firearms Act counts. The robber used a sawed off 22 calibre rifle in both incidents. Mrs. Wayne Caraway was forced to surrender an undetermined amount of money at the Gustine 7 11 store as officers pursued clues from license numbers.

Information from the Comanche City Police Department teletype and DPS in Austin tracked suspects from Valley Mills to Wier. Officers arrested Wier at 5 a.m. Saturday in Waco following the trail.
