Peanut Growers Back Proposal for New Price Support Bill

Ross Wilson states the National Peanut Growers Group unanimously adopted a draft bill on June 21 to modify the peanut price support program for the 1975 crop. The proposal keeps allotment levels and adds mandatory loan-price payments, grower associations administration, and other cost-control features. The group plans to push the bill through Representative Walter Jones, while USDA offers a competing 1975 77 plan with fewer provisions. The steering committee aims for a compromise bill and unity against rising push for target prices.
