Billy J. Works, game warden at Comanche, receives a presidential citation from the National Water Safety Congress for five years of water safety work. The award, presented at Brown County Law Enforcement Assn. in Kat Fish Korner, honors school programs, club talks, and Lake Proctor safety films.
Hasse Baptist Church announces Revival Services under the tabernacle from July 1 to July 7 at 7 30 p m. Don Jopling of Fort Worth will deliver the messages again this year. Rev Paul Silvus extends a warm invitation to all with a note about children’s activities.
New officers were installed by the Comanche Noon Lions Club Friday June 14. H. R. Jefferies became Club President for the coming year, with David Goodson Bill Hill Frank Hall John Gleaton Gyale Pirkle James Bachus Bill Calhoun Bob Evans and Jerry Vines named to other officer roles.
Comancheans will observe a holiday next Thursday with most businesses closed and mail service halted. The Comanche Chief will hit stands Wednesday and mail subscribers will receive on Friday.
Comanche County farmers and ranchers with continuous family ownership since 1874 or earlier will be recognized by the Texas Department of Agriculture. Qualified lands must be at least 10 acres and yield $50 or more in agricultural products. Applications to Commissioner White by August 31. Local and state ceremonies slated, with histories published in a directory.
The Comanche Texas Post Office announces an examination for Clerk and Carrier positions to create a register of eligibles. Examinations will be in Stephenville Texas during July 1 through 31. Applications from eligible applicants with 70 or more will be considered equally. Application forms available at Comanche Post Office weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Texas Hunter Safety Training Program, sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with the National Rifle Association, aims to improve gun safety, field training, youth education on game needs and laws, and hunter landowner relations. Classes start July 9 and occur weekly for six weeks. Colorado license hopefuls must pass to qualify. Contact Kathy Evans or Bill Works at 356 2628.
At the monthly board meeting Comanche Chamber Directors discussed a Dollar Day promotion with outreach to local businesses. They endorsed the hospital feasibility study, urged dues increases under Amendment Two, and planned a city map update with a 25 cent price. Norman Moore was named Outstanding Rural Citizen of the Month.
The Peach and Melon Festival contracts Southwest Tractor Pullers of Fort Worth to run a two night pull during the festival on August 5 and 6. Elton Wells of Speciality Leasing Company is named Chairman. Committee chairs include Jim Wilkerson De Leon Free Press Robert Hodges Hodges Pecan House Eddie Lindley Desmonna Farmer Jimmie Mahan De Leon Farmer Betty Terrell secretary says local entrants are urged for the exclusive local class.
The First Comanche Bank board elected John W Freeman as Vice President and Advisory Director. Freeman has six years as a State Banking Department examiner, including two years in Fort Worth. He previously worked in Abilene and Victoria districts and started banking at Farmers First National Bank in Stephenville in 1964. He and wife Rita have two sons, Kirk and Kyle, and attend First Methodist Church.
