The Elm Grove Service Club held a well attended Christmas event with a gifting tree and talks by Rev. Bill Glasgow and Rev. Roger Smith. The club collected $5 for the Red Cross and notes 25 members have organized two years, quilting 70 club quilts and 3 for the Red Cross, plus over 100 garments for the Red Cross. The next meeting is set for January 7.

Christmas Holiday Visitors Bring Many Local Guests

A parade of visitors spent Christmas in Comanche with local families. Dallas residents Mr and Mrs A Johnson and children called on Julian Johnson. Windsor folks from Stamford to Wichita Falls were noted in law. Kinfolk from Midland, Carlsbad NM, Fort Worth and Tyler joined gatherings with the Holmes, Coker, Cox, Atwood, Patton and other households.

Sam Howell Dies at Home Near Comanche After Illness

Sam Howell died Saturday evening at his home east of Comanche after months of illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 PM at Comanche Funeral Home led by Rev. Isham and Rev. Gregory Jr. Howell, born November 18, 1874 in Myrtle Mississippi, married Etta Goudy in 1898. He and Etta had six children and were survived by 13 grandchildren and many relatives. He belonged to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

FSA to Aid Farmers with Debt Problems Meeting

Farm Security Administration chair John B. Pogue announces a January 8, 1942 meeting at the Comanche office to help debt-burdened farmers with adjustments. The committee aids farmers and creditors in arranging fair repayment and reducing losses as wartime campaigns stress efficiency. Texas motorists averaged 7.78 gallons of gasoline per car last year, above the national average of 7.32.
