Miss Ruth Mayfield Named County Home Demonstration Agent

Miss Ruth Mayfield of Roby assumes duties as Comanche County Home Demonstration Agent on January 1st. She will work with the County Agricultural Agent in the courthouse on National Defense tasks, Women's and Girls 4-H clubs, and rural life programs across the county.

Comanche County Appoints Tire Distribution Board

The Comanche County tire distribution board, chaired by H. L. Stewart with F. O. Jaye as secretary and W. W. A. Mercer as member, met to review rules. The next meeting is set for 10 o clock Tuesday January 13 to accept tire applications. January allotment is 26 passenger tires and 78 truck tires.

Legion Meeting Set for January 14 at W.O.W. Hall

The Comanche American Legion Post No 232 schedules its regular meeting for Wednesday night January 14 at the W.O.W. Hall. All members are urged to attend and visitors from neighboring posts are invited. Post Commander.

Upper Leon Soil District Approves Jake Hannon Area

The Upper Leon Soil Conservation District Board in a December 30 1941 meeting designated the Jake Hannon community as a priority area for conservation planning. A district program will be distributed publicly and an educational meeting was held to explain the district’s purpose and operation. L Koonze was elected contact farmer and 25 applications covering 3500 acres were presented for priority-area consideration. This marked the district’s fifth approved conservation plan. The Soil Conservation Service will conduct soil slope erosion drainage surveys and collect further data to support planning.

Metcalfe Announces Re-Election Run For State Senate

Penrose B. Metcalfe states plans to seek a second term representing the 25th Senatorial District. He notes wartime duties and defense program work may limit campaigning but intends to travel the district to consult with constituents and learn their needs.

1942 Crop Loans Open in Comanche County

Emergency crop loans for 1942 production are available to farmers in Comanche County. Applications are accepted at the Comanche courthouse by Harry F. Chesnut of the Farm Credit Administration. Loans are limited to the applicant’s essential cash needs and secured by a first lien on the financed crop. Applications are taken on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by Miss Ruby Kean at the courthouse.

County Red Cross quota falls short in Comanche County

Comanche County faces a $700 shortfall of its $2400 Red Cross War Relief quota. Leaders Miss Berta Goodson and C. J. Huett urge immediate local contributions, noting Mills County already surpassed its target. Donations may be left at West Ward School, Service Drug Store, Clarence Albin, or the Comanche Chief. Wagner's Grocery will reopen for business on January 15 six blocks east of the square on the Fort Worth Highway. Owner Joe Wagner announced the date in an advertisement in this issue.

Eight Comanche County Registration Points Set for Feb 16

Eight centers across Comanche County are designated for the February 16 military registration by the local Draft Board led by Secretary Mrs. Cleve Callaway. Men 20 to 44 who have not registered must appear, with sick individuals registering soon after. volunteers are urged to assist.

Comanche Postal Receipts Rise to 1941 Total

Comanche postal receipts for 1941 totaled $19,355.41, up $2,324.79 from 1940. Postmaster J. R. Eanes notes the 1940 figure was a peak to that date, marking a 13.5 percent year over year gain. Quarterly totals: March 4,489.27. June 4,907.44. September 4,355.45. December 5,603.25.
