FFA students at Sipe Springs traveled to Sidn ey for a January 18 19 district basketball tournament. They beat De Leon 23 7 but lost to Comanche 18 19. Members participated in a Comanche contest January 29 with Wayne Hardwick as president Gayle Leonard vice president G Jy Leonard secretary Alonzo Yancy treasurer John Barbee reporter Wayne Gregory farm watchdog Harry Brewer first conduct or Paul Hill first candidate Thomas Green dad candidate and adviser Mr Vandergriff. Judges placed Gustine first Sid ney second De Leon third Sipe Springs fifth. Afterward Mr Vandergriff treated the group to a show trip, joined by Mr Brown. February 1 regular meeting opened with ceremony minutes approved and plans to enter several Area contests including Junior Chapter contests at Gustine February 26.
Fourth annual state meat identification contest for high school boys set for Fort Worth on Saturday March 13. Contestants identify retail cuts and wholesale sources and rank beef cuts for quality with a winning Texas team advancing to the National Future Farmer contest in Kansas City next October. Breckenridge last year won and placed second nationally.
