Students of Comanche Public Schools and other county schools have a holiday as teachers attend the Mid-Texas Education Association meeting in San Angelo. Benefit Show At Majestic Theatre Raises 36.29 For Community Chest

A Tuesday afternoon benefit at the Majestic Theatre raised 36.29 for the Community Chest Punch. Manager J V Carter donated all proceeds and local performers entertained along with a trick dog named Ginger from Hollywood California. Funeral for Dewey Cason in Stephenville

Funeral services were held here this afternoon for Dewey Martin Cason 22 who died in Dublin last night of injuries from an automobile accident Saturday. He is survived by his parents seven brothers and two sisters.

Lost Energy School Burns in Thursday Blaze

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Energy School building around 4 am Thursday. Mrs. Erlene Irby, an Intermediate teacher, first spotted the blaze. Loss estimated at 8000 dollars with 3600 dollars insured. Building and equipment were a total loss. a four room frame structure erected seven years ago. Fifty students were enrolled. Classes to resume next week in local churches. Teachers listed as Charles and Mrs. Deisher and Mrs. Irby. Trustees named E. D. Howell Joe Hamilton and B. B. McPherson.

Comanche Chamber of Commerce Banquet Held With Plans for year

More than 100 attendees from surrounding towns gathered at the Comanche Chamber of Commerce annual banquet held at the First Methodist Church. President Thomas Taylor of Howard Payne College spoke, with H L Stewart presiding. Directors were named and plans for highway improvements hospital housing and farm-product markets for the coming year were outlined.

Comanche City Council levies a dog tax due by March 1 1937 to City Secretary Hill Huddleston for male dogs one dollar and females two dollars. A dog may roam safely only on the owner's premises. strays risk capture or destruction by city officers. The tax funds address stray animal complaints and rabies concerns.

The J. H. Arthur Sinclair Station on Highway No. 10 received the award for best kept and most pleasing appearance among county stations after an inspection of all highway stations. The prize was granted by the Centennial Beautifications Department.

Figures from the Comanche County Relief Office show food and clothing distributed in 1936 totaling 23855.81 dollars. Food valued at 12686.91 dollars and clothing at 190915.90 dollars supported by disbursement lists listing meat and canned goods, fruits, vegetables, milk, and linens for children and adults.

Re-Elected Stewart Heads Chamber of Commerce Board

H L Stewart was unanimously re elected President of the Co manche Chamber of Commerce at the board meeting Tuesday. J R Eanes was re elected Vice President H Burks Secretary and Homer Wilhelm Treasurer. Stewart spoke of a bright year ahead and urged cooperation from members and town citizens. New 1937 programs include a County Fair and promotion of cotton hogs and a strong market for fruits melons and vegetables.

Gustine will send two debate teams and two extemporaneous speakers to the state invitation tournament in Waco Texas February 12 13. Poll Tax Payments Drop in Comanche County

Payments before February 1 for the 1957 voter deadline fell by 1,751 from last year. The 1926 figure was 4,062 versus 2,311 this year due to a ruling that exemptions were not required in the county and no exemption certificates were issued.

Gustine Builds New City Hall and Church Roof Update

Gustine to gain a city hall on land west of the Methodist Church after a trade with church leaders. The existing canning plant will be remodeled for city meeting use. Baptist Church improvements proceed with local carpenters Truett Bolton and Dozier Bolton removing and replacing the south side roof and lowering the belfry for a more attractive exterior.
