The Comanche Chief reports Higgin Brothers and Company proposed as a $1,500,000 charter with offices in Comanche Texas and notes tax records for the county. The piece also covers a county teachers assembly, school demonstrations, and praise for Comanche schools and music programs.
C McGuire and Nat Loudermilk were injured when a car struck their vehicle on the De Leon-Desde road. McGuire suffered a broken leg and facial injuries while Loudermilk sustained a broken leg and arm. They were picked up by a mail carrier and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Texas State Board of Control reports 2495 state vehicles and $1,057,867 spent on traveling expenses last year. Employees used personal cars for $492,441 at five cents per mile, while hotel bills totaled $178,601 and office rent only $58,189, prompting a push for a new state office building as office space is rented across Austin.
The New Majestic Theatre will host a Community Chest benefit Tuesday afternoon February 9. Miss Elizabeth Tate Nobia Dunn and Hallie Ruth King will present a program with a film and a trick dog act from Hollywood. Admission will be charged and all receipts go to the Community Chest.
Carlton, coached by Felix Brandt, won the Sidney Cage Tournament at Sidney High School Gym on January 29 80. Sixteen teams from Comanche and nearby counties competed. Carlton defeated Comanche in the opening round and Priddy in the final to claim the title. Comanche won the losers bracket by defeating Early High. Saturday night featured Howard Payne College and an all stars team in a close 40 point game.
Brownwood Senator E M Davis has led the Senate committee on agricultural affairs and was named vice chairman of the criminal jurisprudence committee for the Forty fifth Legislature. Appointed by Lt Gov Walter Woodul, Davis joins several panels including State Affairs and public debts and counties.
Mrs. H. C. Foster a longtime Sipe Springs resident died January 24. Funeral services were held January 26 by Rev. W. N. Byrd and Rev. Pat Brown, with burial in Sipe Springs Cemetery. Born June 11, 1853 in Austin, she married Hugh C. Foster September 10, 1873 and left eight children, twenty-seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a brother and sister. Out of town relatives and friends attended from Abilene, Lamesa, Austin, Rising Star, and other nearby towns.
Gustine quickly raised 106.45 for eastern flood sufferers with Eva Palmer as chair and EB Hale as secretary. Macksville and other nearby communities contributed. committees were appointed to collect further funds for relief efforts.
Mrs Oma McKinzie announces the opening of a new beauty parlor in Comanche to operate at Joe Marshall's Barber Shop. She has completed a beauty culture course under Mrs Martin of Brownwood and will manage the shop using Wright's Beauty Parlor fixtures now being renovated. The business opens next week.
Tarleton Dean J Thomas Davis of John Tarleton College told students that love affairs on campus are not harmful. He argued love inspires noble deeds and should not be banished from college life, prompting loud student applause during the assembly.
On January 28 Joe Underhill was sworn in as constable of the precinct succeeding W R Dest who resigned after serving a few weeks in the term.
Senator Tom Connally of Texas proposes a bill to remove profits from war via tax measures. The plan calls for higher taxes and lower personal exemptions to curb wartime profiteering if the United States enters a conflict.
J B Alborn commander urges support for flood victims as the American Legion Disaster and Relief Division asks for contributions. The message echoes the Legion motto In Peace As in War We Serve and calls members to report contributions and aid.
Colquitt Williams son of Mr and Mrs T J Williams of Comanche led a strong year at Kirginbotham Bros Co local branch. He reported a $300 000 sales rise company wide and said the firm bought a large stock of new goods before price increases, positioning the store for value in the new year.
Beckham Guthrie has accepted a pharmacist position at Service Drug Store. He is a registered druggist trained in Fort Worth and New Mexico. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Jim M Guthrie of Comanche and resigned a post in Evant to return to his beginnings in Comanche.
The community reports $302.29 raised for Eastern flood victims surpassing the county quota with contributions from individuals and firms. Notable donors include Comanche National Bank, Southwest Gas Co., and several churches. The article also notes the death of Uncle George W. Luker, a longtime resident and Confederate veteran.
Land options for a sandy land farm experiment station near Rising Star are expected to be secured by week’s end, with counties including Comanche Erath Eastland Brown and Callahan under consideration. The project to be run by A and M College awaits legislative funding from the present assembly.

This is the third straight year they claimed the honor earning a permanent FFA plaque. Teams from Gustine Sidney De Leon Sipe Springs joined Comyn. Members listed include H. B. Keith president Gene Gary vice president Dean Miller secretary Ralph Caraway treasurer C T Thompson reporter Ralph Gilder farm watch dog Charles Campbell first conductor L G Caraway second conductor L Keith and Raymond Gilder green hands W D Graves adviser. The team advances to the Area IV contest at Tarleton College on a later date.
