Dry cows need 8 to 10 pounds of concentrate with 7 percent digestible protein and minerals, while cows with calves require 14 to 15 pounds of concentrate with 8 to 9 percent digestible protein. Creep feeding helps calves gain weight and stay uniform at weaning, using grazed roughage and concentrates or grains like oats corn and milo.
