The district lists registration for new students August 9 to 14 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily with contacts Lee Presswood David Andrews and James Wilson. Immunization records birth certificates and report cards required. First day August 19 with in service for staff August 16.
Rumor links 52nd District Judge Byron McClellan to a decision in the Comanche Independent School District tax challenge by 21 plaintiffs over the 1970 tax plan. No judgment has been filed officially. an appeal to the Eleventh Court of Civil Appeals at Eastland could delay closure, with potential tax liability for the plaintiffs if sustained.
Jerry Hulsey, former Comanche City Police officer, is named deputy sheriff to be based in De Leon. He plans to move there after securing living quarters. The Commissioners Court discussed the post but took no action to abolish it. a petition to keep the De Leon deputyship was presented, replacing L. V. Doc Stamp who held the post for 22 months under Sheriff Gas ton Boykin.
Comanche's Fair Association had announced Saturday auctions for agricultural products and baked goods but chairwoman Barbara Williams now says times will be announced later.
Miss Vickie Hamrick 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs H W Hamrick, is selected as the Queen of the 57th De Leon Peach and Melon Festival. First runner up is Becky Morris 16, second runner up Becky Dossey 17. Judges include Mrs Paul Wheelis Brownwood Mrs Helen Martin Stephenville and Ross Forbus Pleasanton.
The Indian Band will start tryouts and rehearsals Monday evening August 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Indian Band Hall. Non enrolled Comanche high school students must contact director David Venable before the 9th. Training includes officer elections uniform issue instrument rental music memorization marching basics and section leader corroboration.
A petition filed in Comanche County Clerk's office asks the Commissioners Court to call an election to consolidate Sidney Independent School District with Comanche District. It carries 26 signatures from Sidney residents. Similar petitions are circulating in the Comanche district.
Continuous rainfall from July 24 through Sunday August 1 boosts county economy, fills stock tanks, aids dryland peanuts, and coastal pastures. Comanche city records 2.91 inches in a week while the county totals 11.63 inches. year-to-date compared with 19.07 inches last year.
Johnny Newhouse, 15, son of Mr and Mrs J L Newhouse, will play in the TAAF Junior Golf Tournament in Abilene this weekend. A CHS sophomore, he qualified by placing creditably last week at Stephenville. The event features four age divisions with three trophies awarded. Johnny competes at PAR Country Club and has recent tournament success.
The Summer Crusade service will be held at First United Methodist Church Sunday at 7 p.m. Rev. Robert Bohannon of Central Christian Church will preach. The Sanctuary Choir will sing special music. Refreshments follow with a time of fellowship afterward.
Comanche County Electric Cooperative Association will hold its 38rd annual meeting at Indian Memorial Stadium in Comanche on August 15. Co op manager Wm. J. Parks says the meeting begins at 7 pm with refreshments and a gift for each member.
