Hulsey Named Deputy Sheriff in De Leon

Jerry Hulsey, former Comanche City Police officer, is named deputy sheriff to be based in De Leon. He plans to move there after securing living quarters. The Commissioners Court discussed the post but took no action to abolish it. a petition to keep the De Leon deputyship was presented, replacing L. V. Doc Stamp who held the post for 22 months under Sheriff Gas ton Boykin.

Indian Band Announces Tryouts and Rehearsals

The Indian Band will start tryouts and rehearsals Monday evening August 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Indian Band Hall. Non enrolled Comanche high school students must contact director David Venable before the 9th. Training includes officer elections uniform issue instrument rental music memorization marching basics and section leader corroboration.

Newhouse Competes In State Junior Golf Tourney

Johnny Newhouse, 15, son of Mr and Mrs J L Newhouse, will play in the TAAF Junior Golf Tournament in Abilene this weekend. A CHS sophomore, he qualified by placing creditably last week at Stephenville. The event features four age divisions with three trophies awarded. Johnny competes at PAR Country Club and has recent tournament success.
