Train Collision Near McCoy Claims Bershears Family

A Missouri Pacific passenger train collided with a car carrying Mr. and Mrs. A Bershears and their son aged about 12 miles south of Pleasanton. The mother was killed instantly and the father died en route to Pleasanton hospital. The boy was thrown clear and survived with multiple injuries and a neck cut from barbed wire. The Bershears family had roots in Comanche County with Sid John Henry and Pink Bershears as brothers.

Newburg and Hebron School Exhibitions Highlight Week

The Newburg School closed with an open air exhibition drawing hundreds. Hebron School ends week with a large exhibition announced by Prof Mert Sullivan. A two year old steer shipped by Pierce Burns weighed 1210 pounds fetching $90.75 at Fort Worth. Comanche hosts included McKlhaney baseball and John Tarleton girls basketball teams visiting for two contests, with CHS boys winning 13 to 6 and girls 15 to 10 despite rain. John W. Crow, 25, died here. Major lectures by Rev A G Graham on Catholicism and travels in India and Africa planned in Hasse.

Death of Glenda Williford in Blanket

Funeral services for 6 year old Glenda Williford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy W. Williford of Blanket, were held at Blanket Baptist Church with Rev. J. M. Bradford officiating. Survivors include her parents, one brother Findley Whitson, grandfather M. D. Williford of Comanche, and grandmother Minnie Wotten of Strawn. Burial followed at Mercer Gap Cemetery.

Verdelle Marshall and Buster Hicks Host Spring Tea

About sixty guests attended an afternoon tea for Verdelle Marshall and Buster Hicks. Guests were greeted by Billie St Clair and others as spring blossoms adorned the reception room and dining space with blue cornflowers bluebonnets roses. A bridal bouquet, angel food cake and heart shaped ice cream plate announced the occasion with a streamer noting May 17.

Comanche Band Presents Hexabustin On Stage

The Comanche High School Band will stage Hexabustin the first musical show in Comanche featuring music, dancers and singers. The Singing Band promises value with acts including imitations of Tommy Dorsey and Wayne King. Plan now to attend this grand event.

Mrs. Chaffin Hosts Delta Kappa Gamma Meeting

The Gamma Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met at Mrs. Virgil Chaffin’s home on April 19 for its first business session of the year. Committees were formed plans for next year were set. Chaffin elected delegate to Wichita Falls State convention April 25 26. Myrtle Brick and Mabel Hall spoke as Omega chapter visitors followed by a social hour and dessert.

Comanche High juniors host 1941 senior banquet

The Junior class held a Saturday April 19 banquet for the Seniors of 1941 with a patriotic Red White and Blue theme. The hall decorations featured streamers and flower arrangements as 116 students teachers and guests attended. The program included a toast by Billy Munroe songs by the orchestra and girls quartet talks by Supt. Compton and Principal Chaffin and an address on patriotism by Prof. T R Havens of Howard Payne College.

Million Dollar Camp Bowie Building Program Approved

Authorization approved for a 195 building expansion at Camp Bowie. The project includes days, recreation buildings, a guest house, school facilities, an ordnance shop and a water reservoir with an estimated cost over 1.05 million dollars. Major William E. At a recent session of the Commissioners' Court D. M. Woodward of Comanche was appointed County Surveyor. Mr Woodward has previously served in that capacity and is a capable surveyor and civil engineer. He has been improving in health for nearly a year.

Annie Hayes Leaves Rouse City for Dallas Power and Light

Miss Annie Lucile Hayes, after six weeks visiting her mother, departs to Dallas to join the general accounting office of Texas Power and Light Company. She receives a 15 year service pin this month and has served as stenographer and cashier in the Rouse City district office for 15 years.
