The Nebraska Public Power District files a 150 million dollar civil suit in Lincoln federal court against General Electric, Westinghouse, Burns & Roe, Control Components, and Chicago Bridge and Iron. Claims allege defects in the by pass system and containment, faulty intake structure, design and project management faults, and cost overruns tied to delays at the Cooper Nuclear Station. The United States posted a 1.04 billion dollar August surplus as food exports outpaced oil and other goods. Total farm exports rose 83 million led by soybeans and corn while oil imports climbed 5 percent to 2.16 billion. No surge in imports to beat OPEC price hikes was evident.

Unusual van accidents on Columbus streets and beyond
