A Sunday drill at the Hall of Justice basement simulates a tornado strike on Columbus Platte County with 45 civil defense workers from multiple communities. The exercise runs from 1 p.m. to after 5 p.m. and highlights coordination, warnings, and plans evaluation under emergency conditions.

Balloonists Rescued Unharmed After Atlantic Flight
Two American balloonists Ben Abruzzo and Maxie Anderson, attempting the first Atlantic crossing, landed in the North Atlantic off Iceland and were rescued by a U.S. Navy helicopter near Keflavik. They were unharmed and taken to a hospital for observation after more than 60 hours aloft in the Double Eagle.

Monroe man, 22, victim in rural Lindsay crash
Tim Korus of rural Monroe died Saturday afternoon in a one car crash ten miles south of Lindsay. Driver Michael Klaasen of rural Lindsay swerved to the shoulder, rolled the car. Klaasen was listed in fair condition at an Omaha hospital with head injuries. Also injured were Lary Bender 24 Dwane Wiese 23 and Mike Schaecher 19 all of Lindsay with cuts and bruises.

Parade set for Oct 8 in Columbus Days event 1977
Parade Chairman John Miller announced the Discover Columbus Days Parade will held at 10 a.m. Saturday October 8 in downtown Columbus.
