A British Airways jet and a Yugoslav DC9 collided at 30 000 feet above Vrbavec near Zagreb killing all 171 aboard. The British flight from London to Istanbul carried 54 passengers and nine crew. the Yugoslav plane from Split to Cologne carried 108, mostly West German tourists.
